8 Arrested In Walnut Creek Crackdown On Retail Theft

WALNUT CREEK, CA — In a coordinated effort to combat organized retail crime, the Walnut Creek Police Department teamed up with the California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division and the California Department of Justice for a targeted operation in the city’s bustling downtown area on Saturday, December 7.

The retail theft suppression effort focused on several downtown businesses and led to the arrest of eight individuals. Among those detained was a suspect found in possession of a stolen firearm.

The following adults were booked into Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez:

  • Gerardo Cacho, 21, of Stockton
  • Bryan Escobar Cortez, 21, of Stockton
  • Tommie Lewis, 23, of Rodeo

Additionally, five juveniles were arrested but were not identified due to their age.

This operation follows a similar crackdown in November that resulted in the arrest of 16 people, including two Walnut Creek residents. These efforts reflect the city’s commitment to addressing retail crime head-on.

“We look forward to continuing these types of operations to show criminals they are not welcome in Walnut Creek,” the police department stated.

The increased focus on retail crime comes as part of a broader initiative to protect businesses and ensure community safety. Law enforcement agencies aim to make Walnut Creek’s downtown area a secure space for shoppers, employees, and business owners.
