Counterfeit money seized in organized retail theft at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls

WATERBURY, Conn. (WWLP) – Detectives are being recognized for their work in tackling organized retail theft schemes targeting T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores. According to the Connecticut State Police, an investigation revealed that suspects were using counterfeit money to purchase merchandise from one store and then returning the same items to another location for a cash refund. This scheme occurred at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores across Connecticut and New York.

In September, three suspects were arrested in connection with the operation. Police seized counterfeit currency and recovered stolen merchandise during the investigation.

Last Wednesday, TJX Companies, Inc., the parent company of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, honored detectives from the Connecticut State Police Statewide Organized Crime Task Force, the Organized Retail Theft Task Force, and the Waterbury Police Department Violent Crimes Task Force for their efforts in combating the theft ring.
