SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has detained multiple individuals in a series of operations targeting organized retail crime across the city, recovering thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise.
Mission Street Operations Yield Results
On October 15, SFPD officers detained seven individuals at a retail location on Mission Street. All were cited for shoplifting and released at the scene. The stolen merchandise, valued at over $400, was recovered and returned to the store.
In another operation on October 29, officers arrested 13 suspects at the same location. Ten were cited and released, while two were booked into the San Francisco County Jail due to outstanding warrants. During the arrests, officers found a replica firearm on one of the suspects.
Significant Theft at Walgreens
A separate incident unfolded on November 4 at a Walgreens store on the 400 block of Mission Street. Two suspects allegedly stole merchandise valued at more than $2,500. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified and tracked one of the suspects using new mobile security tools and public safety cameras.
The suspect, 23-year-old Taji Muhammed, was located near 24th and Mission streets, allegedly attempting to sell the stolen goods. Muhammed was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including second-degree burglary, grand theft, organized retail theft, and resisting arrest.
SFPD’s Ongoing Efforts
These operations are part of a broader initiative by the SFPD to combat organized retail crime. Using a combination of uniformed officers, plainclothes detectives, and advanced surveillance technology, the department continues its efforts to protect local businesses and curb theft.
Police urge the public and business owners to report suspicious activity and theft incidents to aid in the crackdown on organized retail crime, which poses a significant threat to the city’s economy.
