SAN FRANCISCO – October 4, 2024: Seventeen individuals have been arrested in connection with a series of Organized Retail Crime (ORC) operations conducted by the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) in the Ingleside District, authorities reported Friday.
The arrests were part of a coordinated effort by Ingleside Station officers to crack down on retail theft and hold perpetrators accountable. The enforcement operations, which took place between August 23 and September 24, targeted shoplifting hotspots on the 3300 and 4900 blocks of Mission Street. Uniformed and plainclothes officers collaborated in the operation, focusing on businesses that had been experiencing a surge in theft incidents.
During the operation, officers apprehended 17 suspects involved in ORC and petty theft. Thirteen adults were cited and released at the scene, while four juveniles were transported to the Community Assessment Referral Center (CARC). Stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the affected stores.
These efforts are part of a larger initiative funded by a $15.3 million grant awarded to the SFPD in 2023 by the State of California for Organized Retail Theft Prevention. The department has made numerous ORC arrests in recent months and plans to continue similar operations citywide to curb theft at local businesses.
Businesses wishing to participate in future ORC operations can reach out to the SFPD at sfpd.retailtheft@sfgov.org. The SFPD continues to investigate these cases and encourages anyone with information to contact them at 1-415-575-4444 or submit tips anonymously via Text A Tip by texting TIP411 with the message starting with “SFPD.”
